Default 2004 Polaris Sportsman 700 fuel gauge burnt out?

I traded a snowmobile for a 04 sportsman 700 and noticed after reading the manual it shows the electric fuel gauge. Manufacture date 5/17/2003. I have never seen mine light up. The manual shows it has a off/on switch for the fuel, but I have res/off/on and I am wondering if that is suppose to replace the fuel gauge. Looking into it more, I have noticed that when I turn my key on, I can see a fuel symbol and gauges, but they don't light up. Did they put all gauges in, but not the electronics and float in the tank on certain models?
Thanks

Everything on the pod works fine but I have not taken anything apart. I just have been doing some research on it and noticed one day I was out that I can see the little fuel light on the bottom of the gauge and I can see the fuel gauge itself on the right side of the pod but nothing was lit up so I was trying to figure it out.

you need to test the ohm resitance of the sending unit im guessing to find out if its working correctly.

So I pretty much have to strip the whole thing down to the tank and find out if there is a sending unit to begin with. Don't know much about the thing because I have never owned a 4 wheeler. But I am guessing it's there because why else would the pod have it but yet no sending unit in the tank. The only thing that throws me off is I have the reserve tank. res/off/on. I thought they only had one or the other unless the pod was changed for some reason and a 04.5 pod was the replacment.

The 2004 SP 700 did not have a fuel gauge. The 2004.5 came with a gauge. It may be possible that your speedo has been replaced with the newer unit.

If I took the speedo apart would I find an empty plug or wires going to no where?
