Default DIY gun scabbard?

Anyone got any good ideas of how to carry a rifle while riding to your spot? I have used those claw things that attach to the machine.

BIG P O S!!!!!

Maybe you could get one of those cheap black plastic cases and fasten it in a way that you could still open and close it. I would open it, pull out the foam and drill some holes in the bottom so you could bolt it to the rack. Once bolted on you can put the foam back, insert favorite gun and close the lid.
This is just a rough idea but I'd think it should work. I'd just try to bolt on in a way that you could take it off afterthe season or whatever.

LOL... I like the way you think Caper! Make sure they keep a steady three paces behind you,no more no less. Oh and don't drop the gun wo-mun!!
Hmm...with that attitude I'd prolly live longer if she stayed in front of me!

Very funny!!!

hddoperator: I think I know what you mean. I have many of those plastic gun cases.

I think I thought of that before but gave up quickly on the idea.

Yeah,it's really the only thing that comes to mind when trying to do it on the cheap. It's crazy the prices they want for our atv goodies! Let us know if you figure something out.I may be intrested in doing it if it works well. I'll let ya know if I have any more ideas. Good luck!

Most of my rifles and shotguns are short enough to fit in the cargo box or else come very close to it. The ones that don't quite fit can be bungeed down in a regular padded soft case on either rack. If I planned on carrying a rifle very often I would get the Lock & Ride mounting bracket and gun scabbard.

I use Kolpin Gear Grips. Have very good luck with them.

I really don't care for gun boots. They're kinda awkward when you're getting on and off and should you get in a bad situation and need to bail off your quad in a hurry it's harder to do so with a gun boot in the way. Same way with those big boxes behind the seat on the rear rack. If you need to bail off the four wheeler they make it much more difficult especially if you're trying to slide off the back.

I bought the lock-n-ride scabbard. It was a ton of dough, but it works good. If I had to do it over again I would probably get a $20.00 plastic gun case from Wally World and rig a way to attach it to the quad.
