Help Sinking
#1
I crossed a shallow(I thought) stream today and ran into a sink hole in the middle of the stream. I was up to my chest and shut the key off as it was sinking. Well, I pulled the air filter and emptied the air box, checked the oil and saw it was pretty watery. I drained the oil and put in new oil. It would not turn over. I drained the clutch box, I have an 800 sp X2, then pulled the plugs blew that out. Could there be water in the drive unit(PVT)? Should I change that. I drained a little oil out of that and it was a pink color and foamy. What weight oil goes in the drive if you do not use Polaris or should I absolutely stick to Polaris.... Advice needed. Thanks

To be safe change ALL fluids expect brake fluid! Engine oil and filter,I would change, run a little and change again! Depends on how much water in engine. plus drain tank by siphoning out and mop out if contaminated. Good luck

i assume your talking about the gear shift box on the rear of the motor. if you are then use something like 10w40. dont want heavy gear oil because it doesnt really get all that hot in there to make the oil thin. your silent chain will wear out faster if you use heavy weight oil.
when you say not turn over do you mean the motor wouldnt spin or it would spin but not run on its own?

I mean that when I turned the key it would not turn the motor over. I suspected too much compression from water. It was. I pulled the springs off the pipe near the heads and dumped water out and pulled both plugs and turned the key and blew water out. I got it to run and it runs pretty smooth, but I did not want to drive it much because I was afraid of water in the transmission oil. Yes the plug is toward the back on the right side. The oil or fluid that came out was grayish pink or pinkish gray.

I was really hoping that someone could tell me what weight and type the oil was for the tranny. I do know what the book says, but the nearest Polaris shop it not really close at all. I was hoping to get some Amsoil or something like that as a substitute.
