Opie- You take the 2 screws out so you can lift the plastic a little. The hood is rubber. Lift the plastic and the hood has a slot on each side that slides over tabs on the airbox. Pop those off,now from inside the airbox with the filter removed compress the hood and push it up to pop it out of the airbox. Then slide it out between the airbox and the plastic. It is a fairly tight fit in the airbox so you might have to wrestle with it a little.

Ok, first a disclaimer-I have done no scientific testing with this at all. All I can say is what it feels like to me,basically the "Seat of the Pants" dyno which is very inaccurate and subject to the placebo effect. With that said I can feel the difference,it feels more peppy and responsive(seems like less lag when working the throttle rapidly) with part throttle and feels like it pulls harder at WOT. It also sounds different at WOT,very common for this type of mod on any engine. You can hear it sucking the air,it's a deep kind of growl. My wife noticed the sound difference immediately. That could cause the placebo effect I mentioned,it sounds meaner so it feels faster. In any case I like it and I'm leaving it that way. lol
Also I should note,I have the K&N filter off my old bike, with the stock filter the results might not be the same as the filter might not flow anymore than the hood.

Picked up the ITP SS212's and XTRs today. As my luck would have it the lug nuts were not the right thread size. Did Polaris go metric lug studs on the XP? The ones that came with the wheels are 3/8x24, they are real close but not right so I assume the studs are metric. I'm pretty sure the lugs will fit a Ranger so I'm thinking Polaris changed to metric on the XP. I'll get up with my dealer and figure it out tomorrow. The 27" XTR's look HUGE compared to the Terracrosses, lol
So far I weighed the rears, the terracrosses and stock wheels are 36# each, the SS212's and 27" XTRs are 48#.
Pics to come as soon as I get the right lug nuts.

Would the XTR's fit if mounted on the stock rims? What if they were 26's?

You can get the XTR's in 27-11 14 for the rear and 27-9-14 for the front and it looks like the rears would work without spacers but it would be close. They should fit on the stock rims. They are only 1/2 larger on each side and it looks as though there would be close to an inch clearance on the rear.

I finally got my 850 and took it for a 55 mile ride today. That is one nice machine. At 55 miles I showed two bars left on the fuel gauge but I don't think the second bar was going to stick around too long. I'm going to take it and fuel up at a service station to see how many liters it takes and find out how much fuel I still have when I get close to one bar. It's the first tank so I don't know if the mileage will pick up when it's broken in. If any of you guys know how much it changes once you've put some miles on yours please let me know. I did climb two mountains from sea level to about 4000 ft so I think it is going to do OK.
Take good care,
Dave

I don't know about fitment with stock wheels, like 600Grizzly I think they would fit. I know with the 212s I have there is about twice as much clearance from the sway bar,so obviuosly that means the track is wider. Some may not like this but I do. It means the tires hit the trees before the fenders do. I fashioned a socket to allow me to use the stock lugs and mounted them up. It looks mean! About 3/4" of added ground clearance. And no suprise, power wise you don't even notice the little bit of extra diameter. Matter of fact it feels quicker due to the added traction. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Interested in the pics. The power is not the problem with the 850 as you can see..........it's the traction. The terrathon tires are not very good. The tread pattern may be decent in the snow, but that's about it.

When I get some extra cash, I will be going with Bighorn 2.0's. Not sure if I will do wheels or not. I like staying clean in the mud, and the wheels are pretty nice. I just hate having to go somewhere to swap them out.

Talking tires......the AC Mudpro is said to come with 28x14 zillas. Many will upgrade these tires. May be able to get a decent deal that way for anyone looking at 28" tires for a XP.

How much did the fronts weigh. Just getting a comparison from stock to aftermarket.

I wouldl love to see some pictures with your new wheels/tires. If you could, can you send them to IronBearATV@hotmail.com, because Websense blocks pictures here at work. Thanks again!

Yes, some pics would be great of your new grippers! Also, how are the spark plugs doing with the hood removed? I'm still curious, and I haven't removed my hood yet.
