You can probably make it out of Aluminum yourself. It's really easy to work with. You can cut it with a skill saw or chop saw and with the proper grinding wheel you can shape it very easy. I've rebuilt my boat a couple of times and it's pretty easy. Just make sure you get 3/16 so it's strong. The mesh I got was pretty small but really strong. My email is destergaard@dccnet.com. If you send me yours I can send you a picture and if you think it would work I could probably send you down a piece.

Thanks 600Grizzly. My e-mail is highoctanehotrod@hotmail.com, i'd love to see the mesh. Maybe if I had a pic I could show it to a few people I know and find some local. I though about making the skid myself, but my buddy does NICE work and it would look factory if he did it. Besides he also powder coats and has acess to some high grade alum and for a little more that what it would cost me in materials he would build it and coat it. He loves doing custom stuff anyway.

Couldn't really ride today,my shoulder is acting up. I was bored so I cleaned up the 850. I don't know if I mentioned it here but I noticed that where the air intake pulls air seems like a pretty small area to me. They call it the "hood" and for hitting water it is pretty good, the opening is under the plastic where the gas tank filler used to be. I don't hit deep water so I thought I would remove it and see what it does. Looks pretty restrictive to me, it is small IMO and the 2 90* bends can't help. Now I haven't ridden it yet so don't run out and remove yours just yet, lol. With EFI it's hard to say it may run better or it could run worse. Biggest danger is it getting too much air and running lean. This, to an extent, can be combatted by running a little more octane. I have 89 in it right now any way. I'll keep a close check on the plugs and make sure it is isn't running too lean.

One thing I've kind of learned is if it ain't broke don't fix it. Remember it is only drawing air 425 cc at a time so the intake doesn't have to be that big. It makes tons of power and it seems to go really well through deep mud and water with the videos up on utube. That's good enough for me. Also you don't want any "so you modified the air intake" well I can't cover that on warranty.
Take care,

I've learned a thing or two in my day as well. Each to their own right? I don't think I have ever left anything with an engine stock, lol. Plenty of power is subjective, when you are used to driving a 900 RWHP street car a 70HP ATV might not be enough. I'm not suggesting you should remove yours but I'd lay money that hood is a restriction on that engine. Again I will warn if you don't know the proper way to read plugs leave it alone. I've tinkered with performance engines for little while
The warranty concern is very valid also.
BTW I just rode it and the hood will stay off...all I'm saying
Got the email thanks! Twin 61's on a MAF set up
I recently sold this one.I build'em play with them then sell and build something else.

Dayum! What did the cobra run? I had one a few years ago, but it was mostly stock. There's some serious coin under that hood!</end quote></div>
Long story, but I never ran this one. I built it more as a bad a$$ street car,not a drag car. Made right at 900@ 21psi on a Mustang Dyno, and it had more in it. The car is capable of 1000 RWHP@ about @24 psi. Has all accessories including a/c,stock radio, the exhaust sounded almost stock until you opened the elec. cutouts ect ect. From the oputside the car looked competey stock except for the rear tires and the huge intercooler. But, with slicks and skinnies it would be a mid-high 9 sec car. Add an auto and transbrake and a few other small things and it should run low 9's maybe high 8's if everything was perfect.
Even at 15 psi(well over 700RWHP) this car was plain retarded fun! Anything above 17psi was useless on the street,it could blow the tires up in smoke at virtually any speed,315mm wide drag radials. You caould break them loose at 80mph,lol.
Yeah built motors and turbo stuff ain't cheap. Put it this way under that hood is about 4 new 850's. That's the main reason I don't have a project car right now, it gets REAL expensive real fast. I need a break, lol

Pretty impressive!! I guess the funner the toy, the more it costs lol. I am curious to see how that 850 does without the hood. Can you notice a difference now that you took it off? And how do you get to it, do you take off those two screws on the side, from the first pic you have, and then that piece just slides out?

NICE Mustang!, even though I'm not into Fords, mostly old Oldsmobile's that car is really nice. I used to own a 70 442 W-30 with a stock 455 and that car would run 13's on the track, I can only imagine how fast that Mustang is (power/weight) ratio wise.
Please tell us if removing the hood has gained you any power.
Thanks
