NO SPARK please please help
#1
Hey guys I came across this site today doing some searchs on my fourwheeler problems and I would like to see if any of you can help....... Here we go.... bought this four wheeler and thought the head gasket was blown so i just did a complete upper end rebuild. When I started it after the rebuild it would drown itself out and die. Wound up getting antifreeze back into the crankcase and where the counter balancer oil gos etc. So the local polaris dealer told me that my water pump seals were probably out of it. So I proceeded to replace all the water pump seals and when I put the case back together and got everything ready for fire......I now have NO spark at all. I have worked on this thing for 2 days now trying to get spark......replaced the CDI box because someone said that was probably the problem....200$ later still no spark..... Any test I can do or should I go buy a stator and see if that fixes the problem? Seems as though this could get expensive to just keep throwing parts at it..... PLEASE!!!!! if anyone knows what I should do next let me know.
Thanks Colby

did you check the battery? When i find no spark i 1) Check plug 2) check battery. Maybe try the pull start sometimes the starter will take the power it needs and not leave enough for the plug to get spark. Hope it helps

See if you can get stator specs before buying any more parts!! Battery ONLY for starter and lights, doesnt control ignition (magnetically triggered ignition system on older models) Repair work that you did shouldn't have any thing to do with ignition spark Unless something disconnected! Check wiring connections and grounds THEN see about stator specs if necessary. Also plug caps can go bad (resistor caps) check spark with bare wire against cylinder or head. Also disconnect black wire from cdi, if have spark then can be shorting problem in left control switch OR cdi can be bad (not frequent, but can happen) Good luck

The CDI is the last part of the system to change. disconnect the black wire at the CDI to isolate the ignition from the kill system. If still no spark, check stator exciter coil BLK/R to R for 226 ohms. Check pulsar W/R to W for 97 ohms. Check ignition coil primary for .3 ohms, and secondary @6.3K. It sounds like you got something wrong when doing the wtr pump repair and this problem is related. These electrical components do not go bad sitting for a few days.

Alright, first thing first i HATE electrical problems.....Im about to pull my hair out lol......how do you do those ohms test? also I have tried to pull the black wire off the cdi and still no spark....also have pulled the cap off the wire and still no spark......I guess i dont understand the primary and seccondary test that your suppose to do on the coil....my book was saying something about that and I didnt understand it.....can you guys explain in "stupid" people terms? Thanks for your help again in advance!

Can you please explain the instructions on how to perform these test? Thanks again

TOONDRITETOTHABAK ------ hey i have done these test and heres what I got....... blk/r to r i couldnt get any ohms readings at all...... w/r to w i got 102.7. then I went to the coil and got .6 ohms on primary.......what do i have going on a bad stator?

Sounds like bad charge coil on stator, trigger(pulser) coil at 102 sounds within tolerance,97 ohms I believe! will do same thing as bad trigger coil. I've replaced stators because of this,BUT if charge coil problem some members may have alternate sources of partial repair! Good luck
