Default opinion on used polaris 500 sportman please

hello, new to the forum as well as relatively new to four wheeling this year. i just sold my arctic cat 300 and purchased a 2000 sportsman 500 for plowing my driveway and fun with friends. the bike has 1800 miles and paid 3500$ Canadian (maybe 3000 u.s) at the polaris dealer. the bike appears to be in excellent shape for the year but was wondering if this seems like a fair price. was also wondering if anyone knew the difference between the 500 h.o from the next year and if this bike would be good for plowing? thanks in advance!

Excellent quad the most popular sportsman ever built. The price seems kind of high for the year.Hopefully someone else will tell about the engine difference because I honestly can't remember.I believe the h.o had a bigger cam.Not sure though.

Think you made a good choice. I've had a little experience with Arctic cat, especially on the larger engines and topends just dont seem to hold upon the Suzuki motors! The northern boys should chime in in snow plowing, dont need em in north central Texas! Good luck

the 2000 Sportsmans had the plastic steering bushing. You will want to check it out to see if it is in need of replacement.

if your going to use a winch for picking up the plow, maybe consider puting the bike on a battery charger to help maintain the battery as using winch is hard on the battery as the charging system has a hard time keeping up w/ the demand of plowing in a short period of time. sp 500 is a great choice and is one of the best to have. imo.

Seems like a reasonable price if in excellent condition.
