Default 2004 sp600 water pump cover leaking

The water pump cover on my 04 sp 600 is leaking, it has only 62 hours on this machine is this normal? I tried tightening up the bolts on the cover and i got a 1/4 turn on a couple of them and the maybe a 1/8 turn on the rest. Its leaking near the top part of the cover between the cover and the motor case and runninng down to the bottom, then driping of.f I get a drop maybe one every ten seconds I have the metal plate over top of the plastic cover. Could I possible use a high heat automtive silicone sealent to make a seal between the two or what should I do? Thanks in advance

There is an o-ring under the cover, not too expensive or hard to replace.

You can replace o-ring as kerbbirds suggested plus you can update to the all metal cover and not have to worry about warping w/p covers and leaks. The metal plate on top of the plastic cover was a temp update to help stop warping.
