2001 Polaris Sportsman 400 Electrical. HELP!!!
#1
I have a 2001 Polaris Sportsman 400. It's in great shape, but I tried charging the battery a couple of months ago, and when I put on the alligator clips, it arced on one of the posts and I lost my all wheel drive, my speedometer, odometer, tripometer, backlights on the instrument panel, and reverse overdrive. Oh yeah, now my running light on my brake light stays on the entire time it's running. I checked the circuit breaker between the battery and the starter solenoid and it was still good. I hate to do anything with it until I fix it, and I would like to possibly do it myself if possible. I think I shorted out something else, but everyone I talk to says the usual "Bring it in and we'll be happy to charge you a butt load of money to look at it". If anyone can help me or give me any kind of advice I would appreciate it.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!

hate to say it but it sounds like you shorterd out the speedo. it controls the awd as well. is the bike still running wehn youstart it w/ the key? check to see if the voltage out put is between 13 and 15 volts when its idled around 3,000 rpms. this will tell you if the recifier is still good?

Everything still runs okay, it just doesn't have all of the options that I listed. If the speedometer controls the AWD, and the Reverse overderive, than it makes sense. Do you by any chance know any discount oem parts sales just in case it is bad? I checked BikeBandit.com and they want 300.00 for the thing!
Thank you so much for your help!!
