That's a good question. When I bought my machine, nothing worked on it. It ran, but that's about it. So, I don't know whether my override works or not since I have no point of reference.

Mine seems the same whether the button is pushed or not, but I'm not sure exactly what it's supposed to do.

Th override button lets you have 4x4 and go fast without bogging down in reverse.

I just picked up a 2001 500ho. The speedometer and awd do not work. I have 12 volts between the Red/white and brown wires, grounding the brown/white wire did not change anything. The speedo does light up and rg neutral and reverse lights work. I'm looking for another avenue to try? Thanks.

Then try this and see if you have awd.

All he's doing is regrounding and bypassing the two small awd connectors. Cut the two browns coming into the connector and the two coming out of it,tie together and tie these to a larger wire and ground this wire on the frame, coil mount, etc. A lot of times these small wires can loose ground. You're just making a stronger common ground site. The awd light should work then and so should the front wheel drive.

Early models had the solid brown ground wires going to the strut coils, later models used the brown/white. Just tie the brown(going into the connectors) and brown/white wires together then tie all 4 to a larger wire that you can ground.

Success, I now have a lit AWD light and I jacked it up to confirm. It's below zero here so riding wasn't an option! Now, is there a way to test the speed sensor so I can have a speedometer?
