AWD and Speedometer don't work
#42
Easy on that one. Check the right side brake caliper, there's a small aluminum cap that covers the hall effect sensor that sends the signal for the speed. It cam be dirty/mud covered, but 9 times out of 10 the hall effect sensor has shorted out if you don't have speed or mileage accumulation.Item #39.Dirt Cheap Yamaha & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Check that all linkage ends are tight, not loose, plus the shift levers(belcranks) on the transmission are tight and haven't stripped the splines. If all of this is ok then place shifter in neutral, loosen the ball end 10mm lock nuts on the shift box levers. Remove the 10mm nuts holding the ball ends to the shift levers.Check how much play you have on the shift lever while in neutral. If excessive, adjustment may not help.
Turn the ball ends on the linkage shafts to where they drop straight into the levers with NO resistance.Tighten the lock nuts and replace the two 10 mm nuts. See if you have a positive reverse and forward. If not, then you may have to rebuild the shift box. Dirt Cheap Yamaha & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

If you want to have awd with out getting another speedo, jump the brown/white wire in the speedo harness connector to the brown wire. Awd should work.

At least you have awd and can concentrate on the speedo when you have the chance. May just be a wiring problem or if it's dead, there are a couple posts on folks tearing into theirs to try to save a few bucks. Here's one good post from a member named TaterTots. Thanks, I will look into this in the winter when the ATV is not being used. I believe it's humidity that has broken the speedo. Last year I took the speedo inside and let it dry, then it would light up and work for a short period of time. There is a small crack in it and it gets foggy on the inside. Drying it doesn't work anymore, it is totally dead. Hunting season starts next week and AWD is absolutely necessary
