if you have ridden the 850 and like the big bore bikes dont get the 550, get the 850! the 550 is a great bike but the power difference is huge. the 550 has plenty of power dont get me wrong. the 850 has around 30 more hp then the 550 and it has 2 pistons vs one.

Roofer,
I noticed you wrote:"'09 Sportsman XP850 (stealth), Polaris 3500 winch, rack extenders, rear lock&ride box".

Is your winch a 3500lb? I thought it was only offered on the RZR?

Quad4 For the marginal price difference go for the 850 vs the 550. Isn't it only about $600-$700 more?

You can get a 3500# for the XP and the old Sportsman. I had one on my 800 and now have one on the XP.
POLARIS 3500 LB. WINCH - Sportsman XP
2876591
POLARIS 3500 LB. WINCH - Sportsman MY 05-09
2877303

The 850 is about $1400 more give or take depending on the dealer. For example at one dealer $8599 for the 850 vs. $7199 for the 550. MSRP is $1500 more. Seems like prices are starting to go up in some places, glad I got mine when i did

Who says there's a resession.

It sure would take more than $1200 in mods to get the 550 to behave like the 850.

O.K. guy....Came back from the weekend.I stop at the dealer friday afternoon and did some test on the 550....First think i notice is a lot of vibration on handle compare to my X2 at idle ( kind of Harley vibration ). You could feel the 30% more power when you it the trottle.....but the trottle feel like on or off at first. The suspension is a dream, turning radius is very good. I cannot have chance to compare to a 850.....but I test it 2 weeks ago with a VERY possitive feeling.....Yes I'm confuse, and I think I'm corupt by the power of the 850...for trail riding. I like alot the utility of my X2 rear box......and I'm not ready to miss it yet. I think I wait for the 2010 year.....But for sure POLARIS made a very good machine......and yes 850 is a big step further.....
