You have to get off anyway to spool out your cable and hook it up. I kept my winch on the back and the quick release bumper on the front. It balanced out great that way. I could swap the bumper and winch out in under half a minute.
My multi-mount had what I believe were 6-gauge wires. They were as thick as jumper cables. The quick connect plugs are the same exact design as the plugs on fork truck batteries, but a little smaller since the ATV battery doesn't weigh 2-3 tons and put out 36v. The connectors were mounted about even with the top of the wheels and rubber plugs kept the crud out of them when the cable wasn't plugged in.
Warn quit making one ATV model but still makes 2 others and makes them for trucks too. Here's a good look at the old ATV model. http://www.warn.com/atv/winches/A2500MultiMount.shtml It mounts in the trailer receiver but the Polaris Multi-mount was up a lot higher near the racks. It was the best winch mount ever made IMO.

I did a quick sketch over lunch of the trailer in mind... just the side profile. When I have a bit more time I'll do up a 3D model.
The mast will be reinforced on 3 sides (front, right & left using similar idea as front angular support) Any ideas / criticism welcome.
