Was plowing snow today. Winch was working fine. Tried to lift the plow after a pass and the winch cable would not retract. The winch activates and sounds like it wants to reel in but there it doesn't reel in. It won't engage, its as if it was stuck on free spooling. Is there an easy fix?? Or should I bring it in ( an hour away) for repair under warranty?

 

I know you probably checked already.. but the winch is in engage mode - not freespool - (switchable on the winch itself) and wont wind?

Yah I checked that. The winch is engaged.

 

It sounds like the freespool is either stuck or broken. There's a hex shaft that runs from one side to the other to engage and disengage the freespool. It's either stuck or broken I would be. If you still have warranty I would just take it back and save you some hassle.

 

Yeah, if it's nothing obvious, I would take it back for warranty work. They get kinda funny if you tear into something yourself. Usually voids the warranty! LOL! Sucks that it's an hour away, though. Atleast gas is cheaper!

 

Well i brought it in this morning to the dealer. Hopefully we don't any more snow in until I get it back.
