Oh,ok. I was mistaken since in your original post you called it the front brake lever.
Anywho, people power brake vehcles all the time with 4 wheel braking, even though they probably know it isn't a good idea. The rear brake doesn't loosen up really. Generally the front brakes are larger and recieve a larger portion braking pressure. The same is true of the 08 sportsman,at least in that is has one rear disc and 2 up front. So the combo of more front braking and powering the rear wheels overcomes the rear brake. Even so,it isn't good for any machine and expecially not in high range. That would be kind of like trying to powerbrake a car in 2rd gear and I have seen more than one automotive clutch go up in smoke that way. You are more likely to get away with it there is little traction. So on a slippery surface in low range it most likely would have been fine, other than wearing the rear brake. Depending on wheel speed and how long you do it the brakes can get glowing hot..not real good. Even so I am NOT suggesting any one try this.

Wow, I mean how hard can it be to get a belt, and most places can get you the part overnight if need be. This isn't right. Hope they come through for you soon.

Next time tell them to purchase the OEM belt from eBay. See listing here...

Good luck getting it back soon!
