Default '09 Sportsman XP tires -- SNOW Report

Hi all,

I am just curious about the '09 Sportsman XP tires in the snow? Do they perform well? Any info you can supply...is really appreciated!

I've read threads and more threads about how poor these tires are in the mud...so now would like to know about the snow.

Thanks for the info!

I had mine out in the snow yesterday. I also had my 07 800 to compare against. In places that I was getting stuck on the xp the 800 crawled right through. I have the stock pxt tires on the 800. IMO the tires are not even close for traction. I was really hoping for better performance in the snow as I drive alot in winter and stay away from the mud in summer. But now as soon as I get enough coin I will be gettinf atermarket tires.

Just curious... what tires are on your XP? I thought the PXT's came on the XP too?

..Doe...
That's why i replaced my tires with Swamplite's 27 inch.
I went out last weekend and they were great in the snow.
I could hardly make them spin.
Went up big hills no problems at all, didn't even need the AWD.

I'd guess that they will be decent in the snow if aired down and in deep snow. The sportsman may be a little heavy to float like I want it to though. Will find out as soon as we get any snow.

I am waiting for a company to make a wheel for the XP. The Polaris XP rims on pure polaris look pretty nice. I know there are rims available now, but I don't want to be 50" wide with 26" tires.

Thanks for all the replies!!! What I am trying to do...is making sure to budget for new tires on the 850 XP that I plan on buying...if I need to. Looks so far...that these tires are not very good in snow. Terrible in mud...and only ride well on dirt trails.

Any more reports...Please keep them coming!

I just had a thought. I wonder if they might be better with some of the lugs strategically removed? Or siping might help some too, especially in the snow. In stock form they are basically street/turf tires IMO. The area between the lugs in too small. They are great if you don't want to tear up your lawn. I'll put them back on if I get a pull behind mower, lol.
Maybe if I get board I'll cut some lugs off and see how they work.
They do not like anything wet at all. Whether it is mud or wet leaves...seems if there is any water content they suck. I would be suprised if they were worth a hoot in snow.
Like Roofer said, airing them down should help some. I tried various pressures down to about 3psi with mine and they still didn't cut it for what I do. Although they actually were good for getting traction on dead fall trees when creeping over them..other that that and being smooth on the blacktop..they are weak.
