Default Question for 550 XP owners

I would be more interested to know what the real world price difference between a Sportsman 800 and a XP550 would be?

Hate to buy a mid size 550 single to find out that for only a few hundred more I could of had a 800 big bore twin.

From what I have seen you can get a new 08 800 for anywhere from the same price down to $300 less than the 550...that's why I said the opinion I posted above did not take price into consideration.
Looks like 09 800's are running 200-400 more than the 550.

Thats has to hurt the 550 sales. Polaris should drop the 800 altogether to remove that choice.

Default Question for 550 XP owners

I think that is why overall they built XPs in limited numbers this year. At least I hear they did. I'm sure they will still sell them all,but yeah I haven't seen 2 many 550's selling. Last time I was at my dealer he still had the first 550 they got. I'm not sure but I think he ordered alot more 850s than 550s, that one 550 is the only one I've seen there so far. But he has sold several 850's that I know about and probably some I don't know about.

True on lowering the 550 price but then that would migh impact the 500EFI sales? As it is the XPs average about $700 more than the like reg sportmans. 500/550 and 800/850. And the 800 is about 900 more than the 500 and the 850 is about $1100 more than the 550..kind of damned if the do and damned if they don't until , if and when they phase out the old sportsmans.
I think right now they are more concerned with selling off the 08 800's and even the 09 800's. So if the 550's price pushes someone to the 800 then IMO they(Polaris and dealers) will be happy about that.
If they phase out the old style next year..then they won't be in a good place if they still have '09 800s piled up. JMO

Here I did a little more research:

'08 Sportsman500EFI sale price $6,302

'09 Sportsman550XP sale price $7,281

Difference $979.00

Question is if that extra $980 is worth it for the extra 50cc's, poor-grade tires, almost no storage, no re-coil back-up starter, and first-year-model reliability issues for an ATV that you plan to keep for 5-6 years?

Something to think about.........</end quote></div>

To me the $979.00 would be well worthwhile! With all of the new and updated features the XP's have It's like getting a VW or a Porshe! LOL!
It just depends on what YOU want!

Default Question for 550 XP owners

I would welcome a side-by-side PERFORMANCE shoot-out between the "old timer" 500EFI and the "new hot" 550!

Let's see if it's "VW vs Porsche" or "***-kicking power vs over-priced hype"!

Sorry MT I didn't mean to touch a nerve! lol
You are right about the over pricing! (they all are!)
They should both have the same tires though, just to make it truly comparable!
We all know that the stock XP tires suck!! LOL!
But with the anti kickback steering, higher low range gearing, improved suspension, more ground clearance and more hauling capacity, I still think the XP is worth the extra money!
