Default Submerged

I submerged my X2 a month ago and changed the oil, but have not ridden it since. I put a new air filter on it and changed the transmission fluid. When I say submerged, I mean that I was standing up when it sank, shut off the motor and was chest deep. I am 6'1" tall. The water was so cold I could not get my breath. I drained the drive belt box. I pulled the plugs and turned over the motor and blew water out or the cyls.
I started the mtr. and shut off and noticed the oil was foamy. I changed the oil and dumped the filter. I restarted and the same thing. I changed the oil again and dumped the filter again. I would put a different filter if I knew of one that did not cost $15 ea. I did order a new K&N oil filter and am getting more oil tomorrow. What else can I do to get all the water out short of continuing to change it? Is there a cheap replacement filter? I like the K&N because of the nut on the end. Is there anything else I need to be aware of? I did not know there was a sink hole there.

You should change the differential fluid too. (ADC ?) Just to make sure there is no water in them, I think that at least the front diff. has a Vent that water could get in through! Make sure to use the correct fluid!!

if the handle bars was under water then you got water in everything. if you still have water in fluids then dont run it until you get it all out or or willl killl the life of the componets. imo. just use some cheap oil and a cheap say wal mart filter to do a few oil changes then put the good stuff back in.

I can see the front diff tube and it does not look liike there is any water in it. I will try the wal mart filter and then go back to the K&N. I thought the gas would have water in it too, but it idles okay although I have only had it on for seconds at a time. I fogged after I took the plugs out, so it did not rust in the cyl. I bought all the fluids except the motor oil from a polaris dealer. That was not cheap. Thanks you guys have been helpful.

You have to change the diff fluids as well. You should take drain plugs out of the crank and oil tank + fill cap and remove oil filter pull air box drain plug and belt cover drain plug and LEAVE out, fog motor, let the ATV stand as is for a fews days so air will evaporate all the water over time. Or else you will have to change fluid multiple times until it looks right.

I don't think a snorkel would have worked as I was chest deep standing on the pegs. Are you saying there is another drain plug besides the main one TLC? I did take the belt cover drain plug out and left it out for a while. I drained 2and a half gals of water out of that...in case anyone needs to know how much water that holds. I bought the wal mart filter and just got home, it is starting to snow now.

Not sure about the 800 if its a dry sump like the 500. If so then the oil tank and engine crank case both have a drain plug. If its a wet sump than you have no oil tank to drain.

I let it sit for two days with every drain and filler cap removed including from diff, tranny, recoil, gas tank removed and carb bowl drain removed and spark plug removed. This was in the summer so every molecule of water in that machine evaporated. May take a month in the winter though. LOL

That is right there were two on the 500, not mine. I have efi too, I did let the tranny drain for a while, looked like strawberry shake. I just now picked up my good oil filter and oil, I like K&N and since I have not been able to find the amsoil 0-40w I use mobil 1.
