My 2007 sportsman 500 efi started to idle erratically two days ago.The machine was running fine for three hours that day and I've never had an idle issue till now , with over 3000 miles , on this bike.
The idle was all over the place ,3000 rpm then 850 rpm , I was out on the trail and I decided to head for the barn before the thing totally died.
I made it to my garage where the machine would barely stay running at idle.
After about an hour the machine would idle fine at about 1180 rpm.I took the machine out the next day and it ran and idled fine for about three more hours that morning also.(now I'm thinking I've got some sort of overheating issuse).
Parked the polaris and did a forum search here on idle problems with the 500 efi.

After about two hours of reading dozens of threads here , I checked the the throttle cable adjustment under the rubber boot ...the plastic lock nut was about two and half turns loose.
I was surprised to find how touchy this adjustment was to find a good idle or none at all.
Anyway I got it to idle well and locked down the nut.Problem solved...!!?
