Default Backfire problem, help!!!

I have a 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500, it has recently started to backfire on the last trip out. I did have some water in the airbox and I believe some water may have gone thru the carbs but I ran long enough to get it out and it was still backfireing. I heard that the if the throttle control is not set correct it could cause this. How do you set the throttle?

Default Backfire problem, help!!!

Water can settle in bottom of tank and bottom of carb and sometimes hard to get completely out without manually flushing or adding water absorbing additives. To set throttle slack, pull back rubber sleeve on cable between headlight pod and throttle housing, loosen plastic locknut and turn adjuster left or right to get about 1/8" slack at THUMB CONTROL,then carb idle can be adjusted. Check/replace spark plug also and check air filter. IF still backfiring you might check valves for being too tight, can cause popping back also if too tight. Good luck
