Where are you from Doc? I'm in Fayette, outside of Perryopolis. Show some pics if you have em. I hunted the first few days of rifle up in Potter County, it was looking very good up there and I wish I could have stayed a few more days. We had about 8 inches of snow with a crusty ice on top that made it very noisy. It was hard to glass and stalk but it was possible if you just took your time. I'm not a big fan of hunting here around home. My neighbors are a bunch of poachers and kill a few each year so I don't even like going out and getting frustrated about it.

On another note you guys are pulling in some very nice deer. I'm glad to see at least some of you guys have been lucky this year. Our season ends Saturday, then it's everything back to normal around here. Good Luck!

oinkjackson,
I wouldn't say that about anyone when it comes to hunting. We all have our own likes and dislikes. Hunting was one of the things my father shared with me, camping and sports as well.
I really enjoy watching animals myself, anything outdoors is great. Hunting is in a decline here in the states. I think one of the only ways young people are going to continue our sport is when fathers get their kids interested. Unfortunately my daughters will have nothing to do with it. Two have vegitarianism. Oh well, they have opinions too.

N. Mn...Took three this year, 2 nice does and a 6 point.

I hunt the duration of the 2 week season, every day. The first week was pretty slow, not much moving. I saw a few does, fawns, spikes etc... I finally pulled the trigger second sat. evening on a doe. The next evening, same stand I took another doe, she was being followed by a spike. From there on I was waiting for the big buck I'd seen a few times in the fall and the year before, he just kept outsmarting me. I had him close the last thu. I heard him coming though the brush, got to the edge of the shooting lane and jumped across!! Never gave me a clean shot, he knew! Last afternoon of the season I took the 6 pt.(same stand) It was the biggest buck I had a clean shot at.

Kind of funny on the 6 pt. I took the wheeler back to my stand after lunch, I stop about 200 yds away and walk in. I noticed in the fresh snow I had jumped a good deer so I got to the stand quick and climbed in...of course I banged my barrel on the metal railing...CLANG! I swore under my breath as I knew nothing would come through for a while after that. All I could do was shake my head. As I set the rifle down, got out my Mt. dew I heard a crunch. Looked down, he was standing 10 yds. away under a pine walking right for me. I wasn't in the stand any longer than 60 seconds total...he was RIGHT under me!! He walked right between my tree and my ladder, sniffed a twix wrapped I had dropped prior and kept walking!! So, he was literally under me. He got a few yards away and took a bullet.

A few days prior my dad and I were BSing. I told him I was dissapointed I hadn't seen a decent buck with all the time I put in the stand. He says, "you never know when one will come through, you could just get in your stand and one could come walking out, patience". Same stuff we talk about year after year...camp talk...it's always the same but for some reason it never gets old!! Sure enough, he was right. It wasn't the big one I was hoping for but a buck non the less.

It was another good season, it's really not about the "BIG" one or how many we shoot...It's about spending time with family, friends and making memories!

The venni is all ground, stuffed and smoked...I'm set for another year!
