Now for loud pipes on bikes I run 36in straight 1 3/4 drag pipes and my Harley is a bit loud and yes it has saved me a few time by scaring off deer and it WILL let the old ladies and kids with thumper sound systems know I am around.Bikes are totally dif situation you have to be seen and heard along with drive defensively to stay alive.</end quote></div>

Why do harley riders have tassels on all thier gear?

So they know they are moving.

Jokes aside though.. I used to have a pretty loud GSXR with a CF Hindle pipe with no baffling. It sounded COOL!!! BUT.. it didn't really help too much with people hearing me coming (Other then the cops) as the sound for the most part is directional and sent out the back of the bike.

After riding my new GSXR and riding behind my friend riding my old one I can now say it is effing annoying to ride with anyone with loud pipes. It don't help enough to merit the noise polloution. Now I feel anyone with loud pipes is just looking for the attention.

I have an aftermarket Yoshimura TRC CF pipe on my 2007 GSXR 750 but I left the remoavable silencer in.</end quote></div>

I have no idea about the tassles. But most the folks I ride with ride OLD IRON and not into the frilly stuff.

Anyone remember the Simpsons episode where Homer puts the speed holes in his car? I keep thinking of that whenever I see this topic.

Homer: [suspicious] Hey, what are all these holes?

Salesman: [quickly] These are speed holes. They make the car go
faster.

Homer: Oh, yeah. Speed holes!
[bullets riddle the car and smash the windshield]

Later,

Homer, meanwhile, uses a pickaxe to make some speed holes in his own
car.

Ned: Whatcha diddely-doin', neighbor?

Homer: Aw, putting speed holes in my car. Makes it go faster.

Ned: Is that so? Well, gee, maybe the old Flanders-mobile could use
some -- [a shot rings out] aah! [Ned collapses]

Cool post, we all know even tuned aftermaket pipes are loud, but they doo make a difference, i have a pure polaris one, and i took the end cap off and added a baffel. The main reason i wanted the pipe was because the outlet was on the end of he pipe, easy for snorkeling.
