No Spark on 500 sportsman
#1
First i'd like to say nice site. I was plowing snow with my 1999 500 Sportsman 500 and it died. After some basic troubleshooting I decided to check for spark. No spark tried a new plug same result. I did notice that the wire on the temp sensor is broke off. Does this have anything to do with lack of spark? How do I check the coil? How can i check the Magneto?
Thansk for the advise

Temp wire wont have any thing to do about no fire. Check red and red/white wire leading to cdi from stator, should be about 97 ohms + or - 20%,also check red and red/black(I believe) connector, should be about 440 ohms + or - 20%,this should eliminate stator, also can disconnect black wire first from cdi and check for fire(if has spark could be short in kill switch OR not very frequently can be partial short in cdi (but not often as I've said). Also pull plug cap from wire, check for spark(5000 ohm caps can sometimes go bad also)

Thanks for the info. I went to push it to the shed and it started. I drove it into the shed it died again. I think the kill switch may be the culprit. I will check the contacts on that. Have yoiu seen coils act like this?
