Has anyone replace the stock motor mounts with solid mounts or aftermarket? Are there stiffer aftermarket mounts available? I ask because I've been trying to do carb calibration and I've noticed at a certain speed range the engine sounds lean. I've richened the mixture considerably, but always around part load at around 5500 the engine seems lean. So I'm starting to think the engine is hitting a harmonic of carb. If you watch the engine running, it shakes all over the place. The mounts seem fine, just very soft. If anybody has done this I would like to know the results, good and bad. I would also have to think that keeping the engine from shaking so much would have to be better for the pipe, I know that it will eventually fatigue and crack from the vibration.

Thanks,

Jason

Hot Seat does make harder rubber engine mounts. They are intended for modified engines so the clutch/engine belt alinement will not be effected by a "moving around" engine. I have not idea if it wil help your carb calibration. I am sure you will feel more vibration with harder engine mounts.

I have an interest in this also. Hard to believe a counterbalanced motor shakes around so much at idle, seems to smooth out though when reved. I assume the motor shaking is the reason for having the pipe in 2 parts up front connected by springs. although aftermarket pipe are usually 1 peice.

Does any one know if you change the motor mounts out for stiffer ones (one a time) if you will need to re-align the motor/ tranny? or will the alignment stay put. gj

Are you sure one of the mounts is not broken? It can be just the stud, rubber sepperated or even the bracket it attachs to is broken. Seen this happen a couple of times.

I know the upper mount on the cylinder is OK, but I haven't looked at the lower ones yet. I figure that they are alright yet, I don't have a lot of hours on the machine and it has been this way since new.

Thanks for the input,

Jason

I wanted to buy the solid HPD motor mount but they said it was only for drag racing & recommended their harder rubber motor mounts which were supposedly harder than stock for trail riding. What a bunch of bull. They suck. Dont buy the HPD rubber motor mounts. They were actually softer than the stock ones. I took them off & put the stock ones back on which is what I'm still using until I can find something harder but not solid. That was a waste of $35.
