It could be that next year they'll trim down the line and do away with the 500 EFI and reduce the price on the XP550. I mean, it'd kinda make sense, really to do something along those lines.</end quote></div>

If they ever do away with the 500 I would be very surprised.</end quote></div>

I imagine they would probably keep the 500 HO, but what I'm saying is they might simply replace the EFI model with the 550 XP.

I would cancel the XP550 its the most over priced mid size ATV made after the Can AM 500. You can get a much more powerful SP800 for almost the same price and a 700 KQ for the same or even less.</end quote></div>

It's only $500 more than the 500 EFI and has more power than the 600 twin had. I think all the features it has and the performance advantage over the 500 EFI is worth an extra $500.

Don't listen to anyone badmouthing the 550. I bought one and it is a VERY capable machine. Plus, the new chassis is worth every single penny over the old chassis. Some people are 100% about how much power it has and that just does not make sense to me. While power is important...to write off the 550XP for the old 800 model is simply just putting power above everything else.

The 550 has been absolutely flawless for me and hasn't lacked in power ever. Go for the 550. BTW...I didn't pay even close to MSRP so everyone please stop comparing the price of a massively discounted 800 to the price of a full MSRP 550...we all know that most don't pay msrp.

After all this, guys, I just got to wondering... Not to hijack the thread or anything! ... Is the 550 all Polaris? Or is it a Fuji powerplant?

I belive that the 550 is the FUGI power plant but the 850 is American.
Not that it matters they are both very strong in their class!

Ok. Thanks. And you're right, it doesn't matter, it was a curiosity thing. I'm a big fan of the 500, personally.

I know I read in some ATV Magazine (can't remember which one) that the 550 XP motor was made by Kymco? Don't know if that's true or not... just remember what I read and it surprised me a bit.

Whatever the case, I think the 550 is probably a great ATV... I just happen to like "twins" better. However, for the $1500 difference in price, one can sure buy a lot of "goodies". Again, I'm hoping for a twin somewhere between the 550 and 850 in power, and price.

With Polaris continuing the 500 and 800, I highly doubt anything between the 550 and 850 will come out.

I agree, the new chassis is great, but it isn't #1 priority for everyone. Some would still like the pre-xp and the power of the 800.

As for power and comfort.......NOTHING comes close to the 850XP. You can definitely feel the extra 15+ HP over the 800 HO.
