700 sportsman 4X4 question
Lots of people like to **** on Polaris; I don't know why. Other than my little honda, I'll never own another non-Polaris quad. As I've said before, my '98 sportsman 500 is still going strong. My father and uncles all have owned nothing but Polaris sportsmans and have never had a problem. They're big and heavy, sure, but they're also tough as hell, go anywhere you want them to go with an awesome AWD system, tons of power, and Polaris is an American company if you care about that sort of thing.
Oh, and in my area, quads are primarily used as hunting vehicles and I've never heard one complaint about Polaris and many guys I've known have switched to sportsmans from other brands of ATV's.

700 sportsman 4X4 question
I would not be too concerned about what owners of other bikes say about a Polaris, I would only be concerned if a bunch of Polaris owners told you that. Many riders seem to think their choice is the "best". I owned a like new 05 Sportsman 700 for a little over a year and my impression was that it was a well made piece of machinery with plenty of power and I really like the engine as well as the AWD system. I also kind of like a heavier machine as it seems to make them more stable and you get better traction. The things I did not like about the Polaris are that the brake controller is on the left handlebar and the "auxiliary" foot brake was practically useless. On an ATV I much prefer separate brakes for the front and back as I ride a lot of hills and like to be able to apply more braking where it is most effective. The older bikes also do not have engine braking to the front wheels which often caused the back of my bike to skip around quite a bit on steep down hill descents; newer ones have "Active Descent Control" which eliminate this. The older Polaris bikes also had some noticeable drive train "lash" when going from forward to reverse or vice versa, but this did not affect reliability or performance. I sold my Polaris and got a Grizzly 700 EPS not because it is a better bike, but because of the EPS and braking system. I sold my Polaris to my son in law who loves it, so what was problematic for me is not for him. I would not hesitate to recommend a Polaris to anyone wanting a good ATV even though I choose to ride a different brand.
