Trying to figure out why my AWD isnt working correctly. Sometimes it works and other times it doesnt. If i'm in reverse and it does lock into AWD with the override switch I can let go of the override button and it still stays in AWD.

Here is what I have diagnosed from the service manual:

1. The AWD icon is working properly
2. There is 12vdc from the AWD switch to the hub coil
3. The hub coil is reading 22.4ohms (which according to the Polaris dealer its good)
4. From the diagnostic menu on the speedo I'm getting code 26...which is a bad speed sensor. I have tested the speed sensor with a 9volt battery an LED and a 680ohm resistor. According to the service manual as long as the LED flashes the speed sensor is working properly. With the battery/LED/resistor test my speed sensor is working fine since the LED is flashing when the tire is spun.

I've come to the conclusion that there is a mechanical problem, maybe something wrong with the hub coil magnet. I'm running out of options. I can replace the speed sensor, but according the service manual test the sensor is fine.

Has anyone else run into this problem or have suggestions?

Wish I could help you out. If it were me, I would call your Polaris dealer and tell him it is throwing code 26 even though the the resistance seems to be reading fine, and see what he has to say.

 

Hmm. I called the dealership, and all they said was I will have to bring in the sportsman so they can look at it.

So much for them helpin me out.

Anyone have any other suggestions?
