Anyone having trouble with Choke Cable sp500?
#1
I have an 08 sportsman 500 H.O. I was wondering if anyone has any problem with their choke cable binding up and not sliding properly. For instance when I pull out to choke (start) it's fine but then when I try to push back in after it warms up, the **** will go back in but the cable hangs up somewhere in the line. Does anyone have any thoughts or possible fix? (other than telling me I should have bought an EFi).
Thanks, all comments are appreciated!

I get it to work everytime by pulling the seat off and playing with the cable (I can see it go into the carb, so I wiggle that and it seems to work)...But I was just wondering if there's another fix

Disconnect cable and hold cable up and spray wd40 down the top and let the wd work its way down. Unless its the choke plunger in the carb thats sticking, then you would pull the plunger out and clean it up and the inside of the hole in the carb that it goes into. Your choke cable fastens to the plunger at the carb.
PIC of a plunger, The spring pushes the plundger close when choke is off.

Using a good teflon lube works better than WD40.The teflon works into the steel and acts like ball bearings after some use.It might take a couple of applications of teflon lube to get it worked in real good,Use a lube that all but the teflon will evapoate off the cable.triflow is one such product.
WD will leave a residue and collect dust and dirt.
Like TLC says remove the cable from the carb and work the lube in from that end.I also apply some to the choke shaft on the **** end as well.Elevating the enrichner end of the cable as much as possible helps to get it to flow into the cable.

i use a dry lube on everything, steering, shift linkage, throttle.it drys like slippery paint and if you add something after the dry lube dries then you have double pro tection..............
