The springs are so that you have some "give", although yours were past that point. If you catch something the plow will tilt and keep from damaging the mounts and/or throwing the rider. I have still damaged plows even with them, snapped my sportsman plow push tube, hit a big buried chunk of ice. Have also spun machine around catching a buried post anchor. So it may not work as good as supposed to. My present plow has 4 springs along with the "4 carabeeners <--(sp)" so I can adjust the tension.

 

Who doesn't have a trashed trampoline. I've found those springs are great replacements, and are readily available. Don't make it rigid, you'll regret it. Doc

 

I'm on board with upnort, If you hit something hard your going to do some damage worse then the $30.00 for new springs. I use the eye bolts and adjust them to be able to start to fold the blade forward with my body weight and one foot on the top of the blade.

I almost did that.

But like I said, there is still play in it. When the plow is down it sits normal but it still can "fold" before the chains stop it.

I also put it so there are 3 extra chain links to spare, I can "soften" it up if need be.

We are getting a snow/ice storm right now. I am gonna go out later and see how she works.

 

I got a set of Silver colored springs that are much heavier for my blade.

I think they came from Western Power Sports. They were the same length as the stock Black ones but about 2x the diameter and the Wire was about 2x thicker.

They work well and still will break over with a truly immovable object.

 

I just plowed my 180 foot driveway, ice wet heavy snow and it worked great!! The a$$ end of the 4-wheeler slips a little due to all the weight now in the front but I was pleased. I am inside warming up and then I am gonna go do my neighbors driveway.

 

For my .02 worth, I think you could get some springs at a good hardware store that would match the ones you have on the plow for a lot less as has been said. Carabiner is the spelling for any and all wondering.

 

Welcome to the enjoyable world of plowin kid. Have always used an atv for my drive. Was down to the mother in laws over xmas and ran a snowblower for the first time. I will stick with the atv any day but guess it beats a shovel.

 

ya it was fun. I have ran plenty of blowers and shovels. I will take the atv anyday.
