Default Fuel Level Not Displayed

Early last year I brought my '06 Sportsman 500 X2 into the dealer for what turned out to be a Sure-Power or ECM failure. Long story-short after nearly 3 months, a wiring harness replacement and a new Sure-Power unit later, I got the quad back. I left the dealership on a less than friendly note. When I had the chance to ride again, several months later, I noticed that I no longer got an indication of fuel amount on the inst. cluster.

The bars that are normally dark to show level are missing from the display. Does anyone know of this means the level sender from the gas tank is not hooked up or if it is an instrument cluster issue? I think the fule level sender is at the bottom of the tank and I am really not excited about stripping everything down to get at it if it may be something else.

This will be a self fix, I am NOT going back to the dealership again!

Ideas?

Not quite sure if it's the same on your but on my '05 there's a 16 pin connector which connects to the back of the speedometer...You'll wanna look for the purple/ white wire...That's the one for the fuel sender......

I had just the opposite problem. Mine was stuck on FULL! LOL!

Dealer drained the fuel and found the float too close to the tank causing it to stick. They bent it slightly away from the side and now they claim it works. (Just picked it up from the dealer yesterday)

Maybe it's an easy fix. Look for that float in the tank.

Good luck and please let us know.

Take a look at my photos page. As you can see, the fuel gauge area is totally gone. No indication at all. Is it the cluster or does it not show on the cluster if it doesn't sense input from the tank fuel level sensor?
