Default new ASM Cluster, Zero miles, Zero hours PROBLEM

Stealer just replaced a defective ASM cluster on my 2006 sportsman 700 efi.

Well now it reads zero miles and zero hours

stealer told me there is no way to "add" miles or hours to a brand new asm to match what is actually miles/hrs on the bike.

is that true?

what options do i have?

Jot down the last mileage and hours you can remember from the old speedometer and put it somewhere safe. You can't add the mileage and most don't really care.

Have dealer give you a piece of paper listing both the old mileage and total hrs, the date the cluster was changed, and the reason for replacement. Make sure the work order # is on it too.

That's what I would do.

Just curious as to why? For when he sells it? Is there some type of warranty involved?

That's what I'd do as well.

One could simply right down the mileage, date it was changed out, etc... That works as well. But, when it comes time to sell, the fact you have the proper paperwork shows honesty, the proof is right there. "Hey, I had to have the cluster replaced, here's the documentation." It just shows your honest, this is the reason I'd do it that way, proof of proper maint. can make a sale.

I don't think warranty would matter, a dealer can pull the VIN and see all dealer performed maint.
