Which Winch Works?
I've got the Polaris 3500# winch (wanted the synthetic rope), and I haven't had any trouble with it. Now I'm seeing lots of posts on bad Polaris winches, and I'm wondering about it. If you've had problems with a polaris winch, can you please post what model/size/age or whatever so we can figure out if it's a particular model that's giving trouble?
Thanks

Which Winch Works?
I've had 2 Polaris 3500# winches on 2 machines and niether have given any trouble..they don't sound as smooth as a Warn but so far so good. Granted I don't use mine very often but when I do I work it hard..usually dragging HEAVY logs .. both with and without a pulley/****** block... most times I use it it is pretty much a straight hour of hard pulling dragging logs on to trailers and it never misses a beat...so far
I think the 3500# is the only one I have't heard of problems with..other than the crapy remote recepticle cover that is too big..I made a wire insert for mine to keep it on..
Watch now that I have said that next time I go to use it it will crap out,lol..

Add another to the Junk chinese polaris winch club. 1st one lasted maybe 3 rides, then winch quit. Would make noise & showed 12 volts across terminals so not contactor. Still under warranty so dealer swapped out. 2nd has been doing fine for almost 3 years now. It has seen alot of use too, pulling out of mud, plowing. This was from winter of 2006. 2500 #. Thought was in trouble when looked at bottom of box & saw "MADE IN CHINA"

ORANGE- Has "Polaris" written on it. That's the pure junk Chinese winches.
Red- Has "Warn" written on it. That's the quality, trouble-free one that you want hanging off the front end of your ATV.
Both are (or were offered) by Polaris. Unfortunately I was decieved into buying the junk one. (as were many others).
I have since changed to the Warn.

Thanks for the headsup.Ipurchased My machine used and the winch was already in place but it sounds like the previous owner did it right.
