Fluids & Oil????
#1
Hello all,
I did read some previous posts, and got a good start, but I wanted to get the opinion of the group as to which fluids are right and wrong. I got a 2001 Scrambler and a 2007 Sportsman.
The engine - I heard of people are using the synthetic Mobil 1 for the oil, 10w40 I would assume, or is that too thick??
The transmission - Is this just regulare automotive transmission fluid, or do I need the special Polaris brand stuff.
The front gearcase - I wouldn't know what to put in here, but again, does it need the Polaris brand specific stuff??
Thanks in advance for the help!!

the new bikes come w/ 2-50 full synth. inm the engine so something real close should be used. the front end takes the specail polaris oil=demand drive lt prem oil.transmission uses a synth gear lube. rear end a good 80-90 oil. the front end is the most important to use the correct oil for proper function of the front end specialy if you have ADC. the scramble uses the hub fluid to chanhe the hubs. if you do a search you can find all kinds of post of this.

For me, I just stick with the manufacturers recommendations. I know I can save a few bucks with an alternative, but it just doesn't make sense to me after paying a few thousand bucks for an atv and try to save $10! Maintenance is always cheaper than repairs and alteast I know in my mind that if I followed the book and something failed I coudn't blame my lack of maintenance or using the wrong fluids. But, it is nice to know what is equivalent so that, in a pinch, I have an alternative. Just my opinion, of course. You have to do what helps you sleep well at night.

If you have never tried OPTI-4 engine oil, I'd give it a try in the Sportsman. It's a SAE 30 weight, and I run this stuff in all my 4 stroke equipment and ATV's. Though where I buy it, it's about $50.00 a gallon. I use it year round and I have never had any problems. For the tranny I'd go with the Polaris brand and add a little Lucas Oil for good measure. Gear case I'd say run a good brand of regular weight gear oil. As far as oil for the Scrambler I always ran 10w30 in mine and never had any problem. The Opti- 4 oil I am talking about I buy from a local Toro dealer, but I'm sure a lot of mom and pop dealers sell it to, and maybe cheaper. Good luck with whatever you choose

I have read many places that say you should stick with the oem oil, so you should stick with the polaris brand oil and lubes, the tec guy at my dealer said that the tranny oil is a full synithic as well, so there is no need for lucas.
