thanks, I just realised that the only manual I could find on internet was for Magnum which is almost identical except for engine which is 4 stroke, and it uses BKR5E with 0.025 gap

well I will buy the correct plug tomorrow when I go to town, but I have serviced every part of the ign system, right down to the actual key switch and it is really a wonder it worked at all given the corrosion on all contacts. the reverse limiter was the worst

so I am thinking I must surely have fixed the problem and get way better spark, well that's assuming I replaced all wires in correct place.

but main issue is the brake line from the master cylinder needs replacing. Any hints on getting one second hand, delivering to Australia.

Default No Spark

I just started having similar problems with my 95 Sportsman 400 (2 stroke). I was plowing the driveway and it kind of sputtered and died. Would not start all the way to the point that I killed the battery. I recharged the battery and changed the plug. It still wouldn't start... for a few minutes, and then it finally sputtered and started. I ran it for about 2 minutes (finishing up the plowing) and it died again... same thing, won't start again. It usually starts right up when it is cold. I am not convinced it is a "when hot" problem, but I'll try again once it is completely cooled off.

I did turn it over with the plug out and didn't see a spark (with new plug or old), but that was before I finally got it to start again after putting the new plug in, so either I just can't see (it is very sunny, could have missed it), or the spark "comes and goes".

Any ideas? I'll probably stop somewhere and get a new plug cap while I'm out today, but other than that, any advice? By the way, the reverse limiter is already disconnected, so that's not it.

I guess you know the plug must be earthed when out of the engine - I use a starter jump lead, one end around plug and other clipped to a good earth point on bike

This is where the spark looks sort of weak to me, but I havn't got any further

as Old Tech suggested I need to get a manual and test some ohms
