NEW TIRES MAKING SCRAMBLER AWD ACT UP
MY 2002 SCRAMBLER 500 IS NOISY AND NOT ENGAGING IN AWD PROPERLY AFTER INSTALLING NEW TIRES. OEM TIRES WERE FRONT = 23/7/10 REAR = 22/11/10 I BOUGHT A SET OF SWAMP LIGHTS FRONT = 23/8/10 REAR = 22/11/10 I WAS TOLD SCRAMBLERS ARE VERY SENSATIVE TO TIRE SIZE AND THAT YOU NEED TO KEEP ONE SIZE DIFFERENT FROM FRONT TO BACK. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS GOING FROM 7 TO 8 ON THE FRONT TIRES. IS THIS NOT JUST THE WIDTH? IT SOUNDS LIKE I AM GETTING WINDUP IN THE FRONT DIFF. IT WORKS FINE IN 2 WHEEL DRIVE AND WORKED GOOD IN AWD UNTILL NEW TIRES WERE INSTALLED. THANX FOR ANY ADVISE!!! CONFUSSED!!!

THANX FOR THE INFO MECHANIKE. MY FIRST RIDE WITH THE NEW TIRES THE HANDLE BARS JERKED HARD TO THE LEFT ALL OF A SUDDEN AND THE NOISE AND GRABBING STARTED. MUST OF BROKE SOMTHING THEN? TIME TO LOOK DEEPER. DO YOU THINK OVER INFLATION CAN CAUSE SOMTHING LIKE THIS. I NEVER CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE AFTER THEY WERE INSTALLED BUT THEY SEEM HARD. THANX AGAIN YOU SAVED ME ALOT OF HASSLES.

Tire pressures should be around 5 psi or so on most quads. Give or take a pound. If you overinflate the front and not the back it would effect the diameter which could cause a problem with the AWD. The width of the tire isn't going to make much difference with the way the Polaris AWD works. You will get tons more traction though.
