Well said, Rtic... I guess "need" vs. "want" is relative. I need food... I need water... I need air... I need an ATV that won't get stuck in 3 feet of snow...?

I have tracks on my 300CC Hawkeye and 400HO. 400HO will stay with 800's in snow. Regulary cross 7 ft of snow above 7,000 ft. alt.

The old school of thought is "bigger is better" doesn't apply to quads on tracks because most tracks are geared down and that makes most quads pretty equal.

Price? Dunno if you'll find 'em that cheap, but keep shopping asnd good luck.

Not sure what tracks you have, but I have been told by two different people that upgraded to a 800 from a 500. they both say the 500 didn't pull them very well.

With the prospector pro's, the 800 will do 45-50 mph. The 500 will only go a little faster than that with stock tires.

I have the sno only E-Tatou tracks and they arre gear quite low. The prospectors are quite high geared by comarison. Low gear is slower and easier on belts. High gear is faster but harder on belts. Lots of variables when buying tracks. You really need to be realistic about how you want to use them, but they all are a lot of fun.

Default Track Kit...

Jchunn,
I just purchased the Prospector Pro-S track kit from Polaris for my 2008 500 X2 and I love them! I do alot of back country riding where there are miles of open terrain and not always broken trails and I don't hesitate to venture where ever I want to go with this set up. I have ran my 2 Atvs in winter with tires and they don't even compare to the performance you get with tracks installed! I have also ran numerous snowmobiles {short and long tracks} and i go places with these tracks I would never have taken my snowmobiles. If your area don't get alot of annual snow fall then it is an expensive modification to your Atv. If you have the electric front hubs there are not alot of choices of tracks for your sportsman. As for staying to groomed trails or trails with low snow conditions {under two feet}, your wheels will do just fine. With my set up I now have 16" of clearance with my stock suspension and can run in 3-4 ft of powder and have not got my machine stuck yet. Hope this was informative, Follow @own risk!

Thanks Own Risk... we get about 4 feet of snow per year, but not all at once. We usually get about 5-10 inches at a time... although the previous snow is usually still mostly there when the next one comes, so we might have a couple of feet at the "deepest" point.

Probably not enough to justify a new set of tracks, which is why I was thinking that I wouldn't get a set unless I found an exceptionally good deal... you just never know what you might find at a yard sale or whatever... which is something the wife and I like to do during the summer on the weekends sometimes.
