Default Exhaust Wrap

Hey there,
Has anyone wrapped there 700 or 800 with exhaust wrap? I have been doing some research about how it keep's the heat in the pipe's to better rid you of the heat around our leg's and may help with melting plastic.

Could help with performance, Any thought's appreciated

I have done it on my 800. The plastic on the bottom of my front fender started to melt and my leg started to smell bq. I bought the wrap from Summit. It`s a bit tricky to mount, but it`s better to do before you have to replace the plastics. I used metal strips to fasten it.

you could always have the pipe jet hot coated. just do a search on ceramic coatings or jethot coating and you'lll see where a few have done it. yes it would help w/ the heat as well as little less power loss from the hot pipes. imo.

Default Exhaust Wrap

I had my 05 800 SP exhaust wrapped I had the header off to do it, now I found it held a lot of mud & you have to make sure if you run in water or wash your bike to make sure the wrap is dry as it will hold the moisture & cause premature rusting of the exhaust header. I didn't notice any difference in power level but it did help some with the heat issues. My exhaust broke in two partly because of rust, when I removed it the wrap was frayed quite a bit in sections from vibrations, I would not use it again I would find another alternative to help with the heat issue.

Not only pics, but how much does it cost, where do you go to have it done? Also, for twins, I would imagine
thats two to-do? Or is it just the right side?

Thanks for the info.

I wrapped the headers on my 800 and it made a big difference on the heat. But after a couple trips it fell apart. I wrapped it again and the second time put a whole bunch of stainless steel zip ties on but it still fell apart. If you just putt around the yard it will probably hold up ok, but after getting full of mud and washed a couple times it just falls apart.

Everyone thank's for your advice. It seem's a little pricey for it not to hold up, I understand that we are alway's eatin dirt and mud, that will tear anything up.
