<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>I think that could of been my problem use 5w30 for oil as the book that came with quad says too do I think next time I'll use 0w thanks </end quote></div>

Thats odd because Polaris OEM oil is rated at 0W-40 there new oil is rated at 2W-50 I think. 2W is still a thin cold start oil.

Plus Polaris Oil is Full synthetic oil. a 5w weigh that is "conventional" is a worst choice than 5w Full synthetic.

I use Amsoil 0W-40 (Full Synthetic also) if I feel like not driving to the dealer.

Do not buy the synthetic Blend crap, they have 10-20% synthetic oil in them at most.

The 500HO cam will go right into your non HO 500. Make sure you put new cam followers in. Good luck Doc

A lot of things can cause backfiring...

For sure, the cam lobes could be worn.
Valves could need adjusting.
Bad spark plug.
Almost anything in the ignition system... like a bad coil, spark plug wire.. etc.
Faulty wiring.
Running lean.
Even a leak in the exhaust system.

If your getting good spark to the plug, and the plug is fine, you can eliminate most of the electrical stuff.
