Pressure test pressre?
#1
hey so when you do a pressure test on a motor to see if it has any leaky crank seals or anything else, about how much pressure do you put in. Someone was telling me you need very little, or you can blow out the seals. Is this correct??
I have an 88 trail boss 250, drive clutch is off, flywheel and stator is off. I can see both seals. I believe I'm ready to test.
OHHH, Dumb question. is there more crank seals behind the stator cover, I didn't want to take it off and risk messing up the timing if it wasn't necessary.

Just has 2 seals, max pressure if sealing exhaust and have adapter fitting for intake manifold is 7psi,BUT if your down that far just replace seals! They just pop out and in! On the old 88 just mark stator plate and case with a pin punch to align back up timing!

Ok, so the seal I see in the stator plate is the only crank seal on the right side then? and what is the best way to safely remove the seal behind the drive clutch? I was reading that you can turn a masonry screw into them on either side and work them out.
also, should the seals be put in clean and dry or are you supposed to put anything on them?
thanks in advance

Can use a drywall or other sharp tip screw to lightly go into seal and pull out. You can put in dry,but I like to use red loctite around edges of seals, works pretty good!
