I really dont think that its a mechanical issue with my quad. I think its elestrical. Tonight I plan on retracing every single wire on the machine to make sure everything is connected to the proper location.

 

So I finally fixed the problem and it makes no sense to me at all!!

I am ****ed at how easy of a fix it was, but happy that it works like a champ


in the air box there are to small holes (to the front under the filter. Theres another foam filter thats suposed to cover those holes. When I bought the quad the filter was in the box, not covering the holes, and I covered them when I changed to the K&N.

All I had to do was remove that secondary filter!!

What does that filter actually filter?

 

There should be a tube coming out of the left side, front of airbox that has a hose that runs to the oil tank, its a breather for the oil tank, that is the only other hole that should be in the airbox other than the drain at the bottom.

 

So why would not letting my oil tank breath sufficiently make my quad run pig rich and stall and sputter?

 

Worked on one yesterday and did a test, left both breather tubes off and it ran lile crap, hooked them up and it ran good, maybey it gets too much air with them off? I really dont know.

 

I have figured it out. Its not the rev limiter Nor the belt Nor the carb. IT IS THE CHEAP RUBBER AIR TUBE BETWEEN THE FILTER AND THE CARB THAT IS COLLAPSING AND RESTRICTING AIR FLOW. iTS THAT SIMPLE !! I just fixed mine with a new one and it hasn't sputtered since. I have seen so many threads posted and so many ideas for cures but this is it. Hope this saves you all some grief and money. !!

I had the exact problem and found it to be nothing more than a dirty carb.
The jets had sand and gunk in them. After the cleaning the bike was back to normal with good throttle response including WOT. No popping sputtering or backfiring @ WOT. I bottomed out the the air/fuel mixture then backed it out 3 full rotations before putting the carb back on the bike. May need to tweak this setting a bit more but so far its been great.

I also cut a notch in the A/F mixture screw so I could use a screwdriver to adjust it.


Found a interesting tip on Carb cleaning using.. get this... Lemon Juice.

You apparently boil you carb for 30 min in 6-8" of lemon juice and it comes out clean as the day it was installed.
You can clean everything except the rubber parts this way.

Not sure if I would chance the plastic in the boiling juice but the metal parts should be fine. Im gonna try this next time the carb needs a cleaning.

 

HI. I haven't tried the lemon juice yet but thats good to know. I know the air tube remedy just helped my neighbors quad. His would sputter only after getting it wet and I suspect the wet filter was not letting air through as easily. We put a couple of hose clamps around the tube and it has never colapsed since!!.

 

the dealer told me it was the clutch or the belt that makes it sputter !!!! Am I missing something ?
