I have a 98 sportsmen 500 and awd is not working 1 of the wheels will turn as it should but other is'nt , the driveshaft is turning but will not ingaging, I think it is the hub but not shore, the rubber boot is torn at wheel, and if it is hub what parts do i need, And when im in 2 wheel drive once i get going a little fast it throws itself into 4x4 but dont know why it does that. and only one wheel is turning in front the other wont ingage, please help and thanks for your time.

 

First you need a cv boot and more than likely the armature plate might be magnetized in hub! I seem to do several a month just like yours! Might just change fluid and check if dry! If is could be hub or strut seals leaking causing problems. I know I'm giving a lot of things to check BECAUSE the hub activated awd has several things that can happen! Also forgot to mention must have 12 volts to coil,check with a test light or ohm meter that you have voltage at hub,in gear with awd switch on. Good luck opt
