well felt a vibration and jerking when pulling on the hand brake. It was coming from the front left wheel. I havn't checked the brakes before today because it doesnt have many miles. from first glance it looks like the fronts have no pads left. There is some mud caked on the caliper on the inside of one of the fronts which is probably the cause of the vibration when I pull the brakes. . I will pull the wheels off this weekend and take a look. around how thick should the pads be ? and how far gone should they be before replacing?

They don't have much to start with...mine have about 1/8" left at 200 miles..about 30 of those miles are SEVERE conditions for brakes...high speed constant braking on a motocross trail..

that makes me feel better. I'll just need to clean out all that grit and mud out of that one caliper... thanks for the possible money saving help!

yeah..just make sure one isn't alot more worn than the others..stuck calpiers do happen...if not let them ride ..if in doubt you can always pull one and make sure there are no rivets or anything protruding...

Per my 08 manual for a 500 it says pads should be replaced when friction material is worn to .180"/4.6 mm or about the thickness of a dime .

Note : I'm still running my original pads at 3000 miles .

I posted my hours before there out in the machine I'm guessing tho 200 hours maybe alittle less battery out for the winter . In my area we can legally run the side roads I can pick-up beer , food go to restaurants last summer I put more miles on my ATV than my truck . When I leave the house most of the time I'm on my quad Dam I even picked up cat food once the beast was hungry
