Default stator maintenance

My old 400 cc 2 stroke still will not start and I feel sure the spark just is way too weak. If I now remove the stator and sensor is there any "cleaning up" to be done to these parts that might give better spark or would I be looking at replacement?

you could try taking some emory cloth and lightly rubbing on the magnets and the stator faces. sometimes rust will end up closing the gap and not letting the stator do its job.
