Battery size upgrade
#1
Has anyone put in a larger battery in a 2006 Polaris 500 HO? It comes with a 14 series battery which seems small compared to my 2006 700. The 700 has a 30 series battery. It looks like it would be easy enough to put in a larger battery plate and larger battery like a 30 series. Would this interfere with any thing else electrical? Can it be too many amps???

the only problem what would arise is the stator would take longer to fully charge the battery if it ever got drained. you can never have too many amps unless you wire something backwards!!. electronics will only pull what they need. a battery does not push amperage through (it does push voltage tho)

As eggenz7 had commented, the amperage is irrelevant. The atv only requests amperage from the battery, as a result, the battery delivers the appropriate amount asked for. That said, you are fine doing the upgrade, however you will certainly need to light duty charge it more frequently to relieve some of the load off of your stator charge system if it runs low. I'd prewire a small quick release plug to your battery for easy connect/disconnect from the charger. Heck, install another cigarette lighter directly to battery with the mate plug on the charger.

Do you think the stators are different for those two atv's. I wonder if they are two different part numbers? What the specs are on each one? If anyone knows that would be helpful. Thanks for the responses I have gotten so far!!!

Take a look at this Polaris Parts Link. Plug in each machine of interest at the top...and check the part numbers.
Hope this helps...
