x2 making noise

Popping where engine? suspension? or teeth?
I've got a relative who just got a 700 X2 and on the initial run he lost a small screw from the cover plate behind the primary (drive) clutch. He said it sounded more like a quick PING. Pulled off the belt tub and it fell out on the shop floor.
Apparently some one at the factory didn't get it tight or forgot Loctight. He took in to the dealer and they fixed it right up; all be it sheepishly. (dealer had to pull the primary to reinstall)

If you have ADC (the four wheel engine braking system), it could be that the clutches are gone in the unit. If that's it and you're out of warranty, it's expensive. I had to have mine replaced in November.

I have the same thing with my '08 700 X2. I always figured it was the auto trans "downshifting" although that's not truly an accurate term for it with this type of tranny.
As far as I know it is not a problem.
