oil dispute
I recently viseted the dealer where i bought my 2005 500 [they dont sell polairs any more] but still have some parts 'while I was there the parts man asked if I were interested in a oil change kit (filter& oil) I said no I use castrol syntect (5-30) and afer market filter . He told me regular oil 5-30 was no good becase 5 weight oil was to heavy for polairs start up , he said it would blow out crank seals ?? Ive done this since 2nd oil change with no problem any one heard of this I tkink he's blowing me smoke but thought what you guys though..how about it OPT.

Use this to look up the oil filter. The NAPA # is the same but remove the first digit (5)

This question has been beat to death,BUT you probably can get by with 5-30 IF you change oil a little more frequent! BUT still tough on top ends(I've seen enough of em) 0-40 or 2-50 gives you a lot better viscosity range, plus gets to cam and rocker arms quicker on cold starts and better protection during summer heat when you need the 50 wt! Some have gotten by ok with different oil,BUT I've also seen way too many that didn't! You paid several thousand dollars on your machine,WHY go against what is best? JUST from a mechanics viewpoint!
