Default 98 400 sport (battery problem) please help!

im new to the forum . i usualy work on jet skis but i love to ride quads.

my problem is that i traded for a 98 polaris 400 sport and some yahoo took of the oem battery and put a lawn mower battery on it . they have welded in a new batt box .

my question is . is it going to hurt my electrical system .

i know its not going to hurt it as far as the power it supplying to the quad but is the bigger battery going to be too much for the charging system/stator to handle ?

is this a common mod for atvs? i can understand why someone would do it cause a lawn and garden battery cost $20 and atv/motorcycle battery cost $70-80.

has anyone had this problem? any comments would great . thanks

the only problem i can think of is the charging system will take longer to charge the battery if it was completely drained. other than that its not going to hurt a thing

thats kinda what i was thanking but i was unsure. all i know is , if im gonna keep it that way im going to have to build a better batt box cause who ever built this one couldnt weld and had bad fab skills.
