Default Sportsman 500 1999

I hope this is the correct place to post,I`m a newbie here.
After reading other posts,it looks like my compression release is not working.
Does anyone have detailed instructions of what I need there or part #`s ? I ordered a Clymers but it is not here yet. Thanks,Dave

Welcome to the forum!Didn't have many problems with compression release on the cams, but did have a soft cam issue on 1996- 2000 models 500 engines. You can check the exhaust cam lobe in the middle of the cam shaft and see if it's ground down or if it still looks like the intake lobes on each end (egg shaped). Some of the symptoms are idles good but no power, backfires, etc when you give it throttle. Don't know if this is your problem? You can add your own post by clicking on "new threads" at the bottom of this forum. You can also look under Pure Polaris Parts Catalog under your model to show the parts break down to give you an idea of how things work. Plus on oem parts Cycle Parts Warehouse or Cheap Cycle Parts are about the cheapest parts places on line. OPT
