Default '05 Scrambler 500 throttle cable replacement

So after suffering through a cold winter and an annoying frozen throttle cable, it's finally warm enough to replace the cable. My problem is that I'm not figuring out how the cable detaches from the connection at the carb. It seems like it should just slip right out, but that ain't working. What am I missing here? Thanks!

Disconnect cable at throttle first to get slack, remove cover on carb exposing cable, pull cable around down to small brass plug. You can use your fingers to rotate plug until it PULLS OUT. install new cable in carb first, wrap cable around wheel until small soldered end of cable just passes opening where plug goes in. Plug is slotted and has a bigger end that faces cable end.Push in with cable between slot and pull back to lock cable in plug, then hook up to throttle assy and adjust slack to 1/8" slack at thumb throttle.
Check in neutral after installation by turning bars extreme left and right. Should be NO increase in idle,if is check cable routing for binding, etc. Good luck

The small brass plug pulls out towards me? Does the end of the cable tuck into this brass plug? I was THINKING this is how it worked, but the brass plug didn't want to come out.

yes, plug pulls out toward you, sometimes have to use small pliers to rotate plug a little so it can be pulled out! Ps make sure cable end pushed away from plug also!

Thanks to you Old P-Tech! Because of your shared wisdom I got that sucker outta there very easily. Made me think I was going stupid for not figuring it out on my own. Unfortunately the little brass thingy broke in two while i was trying to fiddle the old cable end out of it. The end was like corroded in there hard, and when I flexed the little brass hoo-haw open with a screwdriver -I THOUGHT I did it gently- it broke. So now I'm praying my local dealer has that little bit-o-brass, or my riding while camping this weekend ain't gonna happen, and that'd be a drag, you know?

So I tip my glass to you. I do appreciate that bit of advice...I'll need more in the future too. Let's Ride!
