Default Emissions Removal?

I just bought a 2006 Phoenix 200 for my son to transition from a Sportsman 90. It has a few little nagging issues, but runs well for his needs. There is a black box near the gas tank with 3 inlets. One has a hose that necks down from 3/8" to 1/4" and is cracked and blowing by a little oil. This all seems to be the equivalent of a pvc system on a car. It vents the crank case and recycles oil/vapors back to the air box. They call it "tube oil separator" on the microfiche's. My thoughts are that this can removed and set up like a car. Has anyone removed this set-up--or had any experience with it?

Thanks in Advance, dm
